Your Ideal Client

Social Media Marketing Basics

So you are ready to jump into the world of social media with your business! How exciting! Social Media is a wonderful tool to add to your marketing plan. It can be an effective way to get your business in front of your ideal client.

But before you jump in too deeply to this world I wanted to give you some helpful tips so you can start this journey off on the right foot.

Most people get excited when they hear that there an estimated 2+ billion users hang out on social media.

Naturally, you want those 2 billion users looking at your business and buying ALL the stuff, right!?

Hold on there! I hate to upset you, since we are just becoming friends, but you aren’t going to reach all those 2 billion users…and that is OKAY!

So with social media marketing as with marketing in general, you want to put your business in front of people who could become customers.

Those potential customers who are interested in what you offer, because they already like what you have.

However, you could end up blowing an entire marketing budget if you try to catch all those 2 billion users, and that is why I suggest finding out who your idea client is first.

You can even create a buyer persona, which is just a fancy word for a cool back story on your ideal client.

Ideal Client Who?

What you want to know about your ideal client.

  • Gender(if your product is preferred by one gender over another)
  • Age
  • Job/Career
  • Location
  • Income

These are just some basic points to create your ideal client. But when you dive into your buyer persona you will go more in depth with the story of this person.

Why should you do this, you ask? It helps you with direction when you are planning out your content.

Here is an example of what your ideal client might look like.

  • Female
  • 30-45
  • Photographer
  • Salt Lake City, Utah
  • $50,000+

So we have created a basic ideal client, and of course you can go into more detail with this, but for the sake of this example we are just touching on the basics. Now, lets do a little buyer persona to add to this fun.

Buyer Persona

Meet Jamie, she is a 36 year old, landscape photographer and travel blogger.

She currently resides in Salt Lake City, Utah with her dog Buddy. She enjoys experiencing new adventures and moves frequently.

Jamie and Buddy frequently go for long hikes in the areas around Salt Lake.

She loves healthy food and a good cup of coffee.

When she isn’t busy working she likes to kick back with a good book or watch her favorite shows.

She values family and tries to see her parents and siblings when she has free time.

There you have it! A basic buyer persona but you get the idea.

I always encourage my clients to create an authentic social media experience, with the ideal client and buyer persona created you can do that.
