Do Small Businesses Really Need Social Media Marketing?

 

According to Backlinko.com there are 3.96 billion people use social media worldwide, according to platform reports on the current number of active user Out of 7.82 billion people in the world, 50.64% of the population use social networks, regardless of age or internet access. 

In the age of digital everything, it should go without saying that small businesses need social media marketing! So if you were looking for a reason not to use social media to market your business, you won’t be getting one here.

Let’s hop in our time machine and head back 15 years or so to the early days of Facebook. Back when people were still poking each other and our walls were all bare. If you were told back then that Facebook would become a way for small businesses to reach their customers, deepen the customer relationship and allow small businesses to compete with big businesses, you would have said that it was insane.

Times have changed and social media has become one of the best ways for small businesses to market to their customers and gain new customers.

Yet, there are businesses that are on the fence about marketing on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or even Tiktok.

Having worked in social media for a while now, I have heard ALL the excuses why a business can’t use social media to market. A lot of it boils down to being overwhelmed or simply not believing that social media is a game-changer for small business marketing.

Some businesses owners have said they have no intention of selling online, so they have no need for social media marketing. This simply is not true! If you have no intention of selling online, you can still build brand awareness.

For businesses that work predominately online, being active on social media is practically a must. Not only because it creates brand awareness but because it creates some amazing networking opportunities through things like LinkedIn, Facebook Groups, and Instagram.

 

 Why Social Media Marketing Is Important For Small Businesses. 

Beyond brand awareness and networking social media is great for lead generation! What better way for a potential customer to learn more about your business, than by interacting with it online. They look at your pages, follow you and grow to love your business start buying from your business, and then tell all their friends! How awesome is that!?

Social media marketing doesn’t need to be complicated, it can be as simple as creating a Facebook Business Page, a LinkedIn Profile, or Instagram account. Start simple, introduce your business, post content that your customers would enjoy, and be consistent.
